18/02/07   Work underway at Bath Business Park

ISG Pearce from Bristol have already begun construction and are due to start erecting the steel frame for the first phases in late January with completion in August. A key element of their contract with Cubex was to utilise local contractors wherever possible and to date the major groundworks and excavation package has been let to Penny Contractors from Bath and the Steelwork package to Pitney's from Somerton.

Andrew Dale- Harris, a director of ISG Pearce, anticipates that in excess of 250 operatives will have worked on the site by the time it completes in August and that the majority of these will be from Bath or surrounding areas. " Sustainable construction is an important value to ISG Pearce", he says, " and we are already in discussion with a number of technical colleges to organise escorted tours round the site for construction students to monitor and discuss key milestones in the project and to give what advice we can on careers in the industry and any potential openings either ourselves or our supply chain might have in the future".

Josh Roberts, a director of Cubex Land, confirmed that occupier interest in this phase of the development is very strong. No fewer than seven of the industrial and office units are already in the hands of solicitors with new enquiries coming forward all the time. "There is a severe shortage of small to medium sized industrial and office units in the area and it is also highly unusual for such units to beavailable to purchase rather than lease by the tenants". Agents for the scheme are DTZ (0117 926 2210) and Burston Cook (0117 934 9977).

The scheme will provide over 27,000 sq ft  of office space and 57,000 sq ft of industrial accommodation in a variety of unit sizes from around 1,000 ft2 upwards. With a total construction value of £6.5m, the scheme is set to be one of the largest commercial projects in the Bath area for many years.
