Case Study  Weston College, Loxton Road Development

The design and build project provides a new two storey sixth form block and a two/three storey further education teaching block. Existing structures were demolished and the materials arising were recycled. Concrete and other hard materials were crushed and used as fill, scrap metals were sorted, and timbers were used as formwork.

The steel framed structures and heavily reinforced insitu concrete slabs are founded on driven precast concrete piles.

The envelope is a mixture of insulated render, Eternit and Weather Screen Boarding on 140mm blockwork, incorporating curtain walling and polyester powder coated windows.

The roofs are a ‘Rigidal’ system designed for accoustic performance. Upper floors are ‘Holorib’ metal desk with reinforced insitu concrete and precast concrete stairs. Services include a grey water recovery system and a ventilation strategy that accords with BB87.

External works hard standings use a porous system that maximises natural drainage.
